Paul Ryan is being mocked by Instagram users for the lack of racial diversity in a selfie he posted with congressional interns on Sunday.
The photo was taken during a speech Ryan was delivering as part of the “Interns Today, Leaders Tomorrow” seminar arranged by the House Republican Conference. The event was open to Republican and Democratic interns, but the “overwhelming majority” of attendees were Republican, according to the Daily Mail.
Ryan posted the photo to his Instagram, along with the caption, “I think this sets a record for the most number of #CapitolHill interns in a single selfie. #SpeakerSelfie.”
Since then, users have criticized the picture for not including enough people of color.

Other commenters have taken a more serious tone, pointing out that this reflects the Republican Party’s inability to reach minority voters — a concern the GOP acknowledged in their 2012 election autopsy report.

Some said the selfie actually reflects all of Capitol Hill, as less than 20 percent of the members of Congress are minorities.
