Vice President Kamala Harris reportedly drove within yards of a pipe bomb at Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, D.C., and remained in the building for at least two hours on Jan. 6, 2021.
Harris, who was a U.S. senator and vice president-elect at the time, was evacuated from the building soon after the device was discovered, and authorities managed to neutralize the bomb with a robot. Her close encounter with the pipe bomb was previously reported, and CNN reported sources on Monday who gave further details on just how close Harris came to the bomb and how long she was in the vicinity.
KAMALA HARRIS WAS INSIDE DNC HEADQUARTERS JAN. 6 WHEN PIPE BOMB WAS DISCOVERED OUTSIDE
Harris came to the headquarters at 11:30 a.m., not far from where the pipe bomb was found, according to the report. Documents showed a “protectee” was removed from the building at 1:14 p.m. about seven minutes after the bomb was discovered. Harris was identified as the person moved from the building, Politico previously reported.
The Secret Service swept the building, parking decks, and entrances prior to her arrival, a source told CNN. In early January, the FBI released surveillance footage of a suspect it believes placed a bomb under a bench near the DNC headquarters between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2021.
Both devices were viable and could have been detonated, resulting in serious injury or death. The #FBI and @ATFHQ are offering a reward of up to $100,000 for info. leading to the location, arrest, and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the placement of the bombs. 2/3

The FBI said another pipe bomb was found during that same time frame in an alley near the Republican National Committee headquarters in D.C. The suspect, seen in a video released by authorities, wore a yellow face mask that obscured his or her face.
The FBI is still working to identify the individual responsible for placing the bombs. The bureau said both bombs were viable and could have been detonated.
