Blumenthal: No ’email bombshells’ in investigation of Clinton’s server

Sidney Blumenthal defended Hillary Clinton Wednesday, saying the use of her private email server will not hurt her during the general election.

The Clinton confidant declared on CNN’s “New Day” that no “email bombshells” will come out of the federal probe into her use of a private server during her time as secretary of state.

“I’m very confident that will not happen,” Blumenthal, who was on the show to promote his new book, said of what he called a “security review.”

“It’s certainly not a criminal investigation. It’s an inquiry into whether or not anyone intentionally put classified information where it shouldn’t be,” Blumenthal explained. “And my understanding is that they will conclude, and the Department of Justice will issue a statement at the end, that that was not the case. And then all those who were involved in this kind of political hysteria will have to unravel it.”

When asked by host Alisyn Camerota if he helped set up the server, he dodged the question.

“That’s a question I don’t know the answer to,” he answered. “I had nothing to do with that. I write Lincoln and I write Hillary — and one of them has replied.”

Blumenthal’s email address has been found dozens of times in Clinton’s email inbox.
