RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Gov. Bob McDonnell, law enforcement officers and other first responders are touting 20 laws that took effect earlier this month that they say will make it easier for them to do their jobs.
McDonnell ceremoniously signed the legislation Wednesday, even though he already had signed them and they took effect July 1.
They include bills that streamline the process for police to obtain search warrants to track suspects through GPS, allow Virginia State Police arson investigators to get search warrants and speed aid to families of those killed in the line of duty. They also include a measure that authorizes the transfer of money seized from criminals to fund the state’s public safety memorial.
McDonnell said Virginians have a duty to honor those who risk their lives keeping others safe.
