Hillary Clinton said Monday that she won’t be going to Mexico like Donald Trump did last week.
“No,” Clinton said in an interview with ABC News on Sunday when asked about a possible trip.
“I’m going to continue to focus on what we’re doing to create jobs here at home, what we’re doing to make sure Americans have the best possible opportunities in the future,” she said.
Trump visited Mexico just before delivering a detailed speech on immigration last week, but was criticized by some for saying he didn’t talk in Mexico about who would pay for the border wall he wants to build. Mexico’s president later said he told Trump that Mexico wouldn’t pay for it.
Clinton told ABC that Trump “did choke” during his visit because of that discrepancy.
“He didn’t know how to even communicate effectively with a head of state,” she said. “And I think that’s a pretty clear outcome from that trip.”
But Clinton herself was criticized over the last few weeks for not appearing in Mexico, not visiting the site of flooding in Louisiana, and for not holding a press conference in about nine months.
