Officers to sit on doughnut shop to raise money

Two Howard County police officers have volunteered to spend Saturday sitting on top of the Krispy Kreme in Columbia to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland.

Officers Bonita Linkins and Chris Krieger plan to raise $3,000 in the “Cops on Doughnut Shops” event on Snowden River Parkway.

“Cops and doughnuts have a long, humorous history together, so it was only fitting that we team up with the great folks at Krispy Kreme for this light-hearted event,” said Linkins, a 10-year veteran of the Howard police department, in a statement.

Krispy Kreme customers are encouraged to stop by, and those donating $5 or more will get a free donut.

The event, which takes place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., also will feature a moon bounce and other games, a display of police cars and motorcycles and an appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog.

Special Olympics Maryland offers 28 sports and serves 10,000 athletes with development disabilities statewide. For more information, visit somd.org.
