It’s been a few days since we learned not only that Rush Limbaugh has married for the fourth time but also that the musical entertainment was provided by Sir Elton John. How on God’s earth did this happen?
And what did guests like Sean Hannity, Karl Rove, and Fred Thompson make of the happily married performer who said a few months ago, “I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems”? Meanwhile, are liberal critics who admire Elton John’s gay rights activism disturbed that he would play for the Devil Incarnate?
Rush biographer Zev Chafetz told the Washington Post‘s David Weigel that the Rush-Elton connection is not as bizarre as it may seem:
Of course, this gig did earn him $1 million. (I guess he’ll be performing at the next Heritage Foundation dinner.) But let’s not be so quick to declare him a sell-out. To be fair, Elton John sold out a great many years ago. Performing for Rush and his friends should come as no surprise—and I am sure it was a classy routine.
