THE DAILY OUTRAGE: Much ado about something

WHO: Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums

WHAT: Dellums described a California state auditor’s finding that the city misspent $830,000 of the $3 million it received in federal stimulus funds as “an accounting matter” and “much ado about nothing.”

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Oakland’s unemployment rate is 18.3 percent — almost twice the national average — but auditors found that stimulus funds were spent sending teens to a water park and given to a private nonprofit whose executive director has close ties to the mayor.

WHERE TO VENT: Call Dellums at 510-444-CITY.
