President Joe Biden erroneously said coronavirus deaths are “up” throughout the United States while delivering a speech about May’s job numbers on Friday.
“Look, COVID cases are down, COVID deaths are up,” the 78-year-old president said in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
“Unemployment filings are down, hunger is down, and vaccinations are up, jobs are up, wages are up, manufacturing is up, growth is up, people gaining healthcare coverage is up, and small business confidence is up.”

The U.S. has seen a 20% dip in cases and a 14% drop in COVID-19 deaths over the last two weeks.
A number of mistakes have plagued Biden since he assumed office on Jan. 20. Questions were raised about Biden’s health when he was caught on video repeatedly tripping on the staircase of Air Force One and catching himself ahead of a flight to Georgia on March 19.
The previous day, he made headlines when he incorrectly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “President Harris.”
“This is really important,” Biden said of the country’s vaccination effort. “Because we believe in speed and efficiency must be matched with fairness and equity. Now, when President Harris took a virtual tour of a vaccination center in Arizona not long ago, one of the nurses on that tour — injecting people, giving vaccinations, said that each shot was like administering a dose of hope.”
This marked at least the second time the president mistakenly referred to his vice president as the commander in chief. Biden called Harris the “president-elect” before he assumed the Oval Office in December.

“I hope the president will clearly and unambiguously urge all Americans to take the vaccine once it’s available,” Biden said at the time. “I took it to instill public confidence in the vaccine. President-elect Harris took hers today for the same reason.”
