Christian Bale thanks Satan for inspiring his portrayal of Dick Cheney

Actor Christian Bale thanked Satan for inspiring his portrayal of former Vice President Dick Cheney in the movie “Vice.”

He made the comment Sunday night while accepting the award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards.

“Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role,” he said in ending his speech.

The Church of Satan replied to the remark. “To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential,” said the Church of Satan’s verified Twitter account. “As Mr. Bale’s own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan!”

The movie “Vice,” released last month, is a comedy-drama written and directed by Adam McKay that looks at Cheney’s rise to power.

During his speech Sunday, Bale credited McKay with saying he needed “somebody that can be absolutely charisma-free and reviled by everybody.” From now on, Bale added, he “will be cornering the market on the charisma-free assholes.”

The Welsh-born actor who portrayed Batman in the “Dark Knight” trilogy also took a shot at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

“What do you think, Mitch McConnell next?” Bale asked. “That could be good, wouldn’t it?”
