Man shot outside D.C. barbershop

A man was shot around noon Monday on a sidewalk outside a barbershop in Southeast D.C.

The man, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was taken to a hospital by emergency responders and was breathing and conscious, police and emergency officials said.

The wounded man walked into Pro Cut Family Barbershop at 2912 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE, to seek medical assistance. Workers called 911 for the man, said barber Tom Smith, who was not present at the time of the shooting but works at the shop.

Police are investigating and have not arrested anyone in the shooting, officials said.

As of 3 p.m., MLK Jr. Avenue remained closed between Sumner Road and Melon Street due to police activity.
