Warren erupts with Twitter rant against Pence

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren fired off a series of tweets Saturday morning panning Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence — as well as Trump himself.

“@realDonaldTrump & @mike_pence are a perfect match: Two small, insecure, weak men who use hate & fear to divide our country & our people,” Warren tweeted.

The crux of the progressive senator’s attack focused on Pence’s stance against abortion. Using a common refrain deployed by pro-choice supporters, Warren said Pence is “famous for trying to control women’s bodies.”

She also said the governor is “famous” for discriminating against the LGBT community, and slammed the Republican platform for its embrace of traditional marriage and conversion therapy, though the party platform does not specifically say “conversion therapy.”

“Terrifying to think of @mike_pence being a heartbeat from presidency – but the direction @GOP wants to take our country is MORE terrifying,” Warren concluded.

Warren’s tweets came as Trump was holding an event Saturday morning in New York City to formally introduce Pence as his running mate.

Warren is a top candidate to be chosen as presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential running mate. She met with Clinton in Washington, D.C., on Friday. An announcement of Clinton’s selection is expected as early as next week.
