Texas Sen. Ted Cruz asserted Wednesday that none of the Republican candidates will reach the 1,237 delegate threshold to secure the GOP nomination, not even Donald Trump, who is the only candidate left with a chance of hitting that mark.
“We are headed to a contested convention. At this point nobody is getting 1,237,” Cruz said in an interview with CBS Radio in Philadelphia Wednesday.

“He’s not getting there either,” Cruz said of Trump. “None of us are getting to 1,237.”
“And we’re going to go into Cleveland. I’m going to have a ton of delegates. Donald’s going to have a ton of delegates. And it is going to be a battle in Cleveland to see who can earn a majority of the delegates who have been elected by the people,” Cruz said, predicting a contested convention in July.
Despite trailing Trump by nearly 300 delegates, Cruz said he would not end his campaign before Cleveland. Cruz pointed out in the interview that he has won contests in Wisconsin, Wyoming, Colorado and others.
Cruz is in Pennsylvania both Wednesday and Thursday ahead of a big voting day on Tuesday, April 26. Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Rhode Island all also cast ballots on Tuesday.
Trump leads with 845 total delegates, while Cruz has 559.
