Science, tech program expands in county

A nonprofit enrichment program that provides learning opportunities to high-performing students interested in science and technology will expand into two additional Baltimore County schools next year, education officials announced Tuesday.

The program has been available at Woodlawn High School since 2000 and will be available at Milford Mill Academy and Randallstown High School. The program Building STEPS, is offered to just seven new students with at least a 3.0 grade point average each year.

The students begin their program their junior year of high school, and continue in it through college and beyond. It includes field trips, part-time summer internships and assistance with college applications.

According to Building STEPS, 94 percent of participating students go to college and 85 percent of them graduate from college.
