Democratic response on Obamacare: ‘This isn’t a game’

Republicans’ goals of repealing the Affordable Care Act would reduce the number of Americans covered by private insurance, according to former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear.

“This isn’t a game. It’s life and death for people,” said Beshear during the Democratic response to President Trump’s joint address to Congress Tuesday.

Beshear took aim at Republican promises to improve access to healthcare by making it more affordable and providing more choices.

“These ideas promise access to care but deny the promise of making care affordable and effective,” he said.

Beshear left the governor’s office in 2016 and was a strong supporter of Obamacare.

He set up a state-run Obamacare marketplace exchange, which was dismantled by his successor Republican Matt Bevin.

Beshear also expanded Medicaid, which was kept intact by Bevin.
