THE 3-MINUTE INTERVIEW: Mr. Peanut

Planters and the Corps Network announced Wednesday that they plan to transform some unused D.C. land into a peanut-shaped urban park. Planters says its goal is to build community and get people involved in the designing, planting, programming and maintaining of the parks. These Planters Groves will grow native trees and plants and feature Mr. Peanut benches. Mr. Peanut, along with his new biodiesel Nutmobile, will be in town in June at the park opening. How old are you?

Let’s just say I’m in my ninth decade of the life spectrum.

How tall are you?

I like to say slightly above average height, for a two-nut peanut. Or twice the height of my assistant, Benson.

Are you salted? Unsalted? Honey-roasted?

It depends on what kind of mood I’m in.

Do you eat peanut butter?

Cannibalism is something we absolutely do not promote at Planters.

Have you considered seeking fashion advice to update your wardrobe from the dated top hat, monocle and cane?

Never. I believe in being yourself. I mean, your style should reflect who you are. … But if I didn’t have such a strong internal fashion compass, then sure — I’d probably consult someone.

Will you be coming in the Nutmobile to unveil the park?

Of course. I mean I’m kind of the founder and backbone to this whole thing, so I don’t really have a choice.

Why are these parks across the nation important to you?

I’m a peanut, obviously, so I know how important it is to take care of the Earth and your community. And they’re aesthetically pleasing, which I appreciate.

How do you feel about having statues of yourself at each of these parks?

Humbled. Nostalgic. Thrilled and elated. But slightly nervous about the rendering and likeness. It better measure up.
