California Sen. Dianne Feinstein responded to criticism from conservative groups calling her anti-Catholic after her questioning of one of President Trump’s judicial nominees.
Feinstein came under fire for intense questioning of Joan Larsen about her Catholic faith during a confirmation hearing earlier this month.
“When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you,” Feinstein said in the hearing. “And that’s of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for, for years in this country.”
That comment brought backlash and Feinstein said Sunday that criticism was off base.
“This is a woman that has no real trial or court experience,” she said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “And, therefore, there is no record. She’s a professor, which is fine, but all we have to look at are her writings. And in her writings, she makes some statements, which are questionable, which deserve questions.”
