Matt Drudge, editor and founder of the influential Drudge Report, accused unnamed White House advisers close to President Trump of purposefully undermining his administration.
“Trump advisers leaking to media are now deliberately sabotaging presidency,” Drudge said Wednesday on Twitter. “Major house cleaning needed for survival.”
Included in the message was a link to a report that said White House staff were in chaos after news broke Tuesday that Trump had fired FBI Director James Comey.
“We never got 1 damaging leak out of Obama White House staff in 8 yrs,” he said in another tweet. “Under Trump, they appear hourly. BIG DANGER: Small leaks sink ships!!”
Comey’s termination comes as the FBI is investigating whether Trump’s election campaign colluded with Russians.
Trump has often complained about “leaks” within his administration that often lead to negative news reports.
Drudge is often publicly supportive of Trump and the two reportedly met recently at the White House.
