Franchot jumps in line for wine

Maryland state Comptroller Peter Franchot just can’t wait to get his hands on the state’s first mail-ordered bottle of wine.

Franchot says he plans to “secure a place in Maryland history” on Friday by buying a couple bottles of wine at a Maryland vineyard and shipping them to his home. Maryland has historically prohibited residents from shipping wine directly their homes, but the state legislature voted to lift the ban starting July 1.

Franchot will parade the benefits of the new law at Boordy Vineyards in Hydes on Friday morning.
