Eight killed in D.C.over the weekend

Edward Mitchell, 21, was killed in an early-morning shooting Sunday, bringing to eight the number of violent deaths in the District over the weekend.

Police heard gunshots around 2:40 a.m. near the 4600 block of Livingston Road SE. They found Mitchell, 21, of the 800 block of Southern Avenue SE, with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital and later died. Another victim was shot in the leg and was treated at an area hospital. 

The shooting deaths began Friday night when, around 9 p.m., a man in his 50s was killed by police officers Hosam Nasr, 26, and Michael Callahan, 27, on the 1600 block of Trinidad Avenue NE after he lunged at them with a knife and refused to drop it, police said.

Around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, three victims were shot on the 5300 block of C Street SE. Shannon Lewis, 27, was pronounced dead, and the two others were taken to the hospital.

Another unidentified victim was shot dead around 1:30 a.m. on the 1100 block of Abbey Place NE.

Around 4 a.m., three men, Duane Hough, 27, of the 1400 block of Trinidad Street NE; Anthony Mincey, 35, of the 600 block of Morton Street NW; and Johnny Jeter, 24, of the 1700 block of Holbrook, were killed on  the 1100 block of Holbrook Street NE after what appeared to be an argument that ended in gunfire, according to police.

Around 6 a.m. Saturday, police found Lawrence Simmons, 66, of the 300 block of Channing Street NE, apparently beaten to death near the 2400 block of Fourth Street NE.

Prince George’s shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

Saturday morning just before 1 a.m., Mount Ranier police officers responded to a shooting on the 3700 block of 36th Street. Two men had been shot, one a 26-year-old male who was pronounced dead at the scene, and an adult male shot in the leg who was treated at a hospital. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored sedan leaving the area following the shootings.
