‘Actually pretty good’: Steve King claims he drank from a toilet at the border

Rep. Steve King said at a town hall in Eagle Grove, Iowa, that the water he drank from a toilet at a border facility Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had visited tasted “pretty good.”

“I actually went into that cell where it was reported that they were advised they had to drink out of the toilet,” the Iowa Republican said Wednesday, according to NBC News. “I took a drink out of there. And actually pretty good!”

King, 70, then went on to explain that there were drinking fountains attached to the toilets and Ocasio-Cortez likely believed a migrant drank out of a toilet because “there was a little language barrier.”

In July, Ocasio-Cortez visited migrant border facilities in Texas where she claimed a woman told her she was forced to drink from a toilet.

A border agent told the Washington Examiner the woman drank out of the toilet because she did not know how to operate the hybrid device.

King has a history of incendiary comments. He was stripped of his committee assignments by Republicans earlier this year after questioning why white supremacy was controversial.
