Mayor Gray invites Councilman Thomas to ceremonial signing of youth sports bill

So we all know that Ward 5 D.C. Councilman Harry Thomas is in hot water over the $300,000 he’s accused of stealing from a city grant designated for youth sports. And we also know that the hot water has begun to boil since Thomas agreed to pay the city back last Friday.

But it seems, perhaps, that the mayor’s office didn’t get the message.

Evidence?

Here’s the body of an e-mail inviting Thomas, and two other council members, to the ceremonial signing of a bill designed to better handle concussions in city youth sports — yes, youth sports:

“Council members Catania, Mendelson and Thomas,

As introducers of the Bill 19-07, the Athletic Concussion Protection Act of 2011, Mayor Vincent C. Gray would like to invite you to attend its bill signing on Wednesday, July 27th at 9:30 a.m., in the Mayor’s Ceremonial Conference room (room 507) of the John A. Wilson Building.”

In fairness, Thomas did co-author the bill, and so it might only be fair that the mayor invite him as Gray lets “justice run its course.”  Or not.
