RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Prosecutors say a man who planted pipe bombs in a Palm Springs neighborhood was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing an explosives device.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Edward Allen Costa planted six crude pipe bombs in various locations near his ex-girlfriend’s home in May 2012.
None of the devices exploded.
He received the sentence Monday, about three months after pleading guilty to possession of an “unregistered destructive device.”
In 2012, the 49-year-old had pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities say he walked away from a halfway house last August before completing his year-long sentence.
While a fugitive, he was indicted on charges of possessing pipe bombs and escaping from custody. He was recaptured last November in Banning, California.
