Hunter Biden attorney releases Chinese investment firm letter saying he resigned in October 2019

A lawyer for Hunter Biden released a letter from a Chinese investment firm that said the former vice president’s son had resigned from the company’s board in October 2019.

The letter was prompted by allies of President Trump promoting a Daily Caller report that said Biden never resigned from the board as he had pledged to do, citing what appears to have been outdated public business records.

“Mr. Robert Hunter Biden no longer serves as an unpaid director on the board of Bohai Harvest RST (Shanghai) Equity Investment Fund Management Co., Ltd. effective from October 2019,” said the letter, which was signed by the company’s CEO.

Biden’s attorney, George Mesires, said the outdated database would be brought up to date when the company names a replacement for the seat vacated by Biden. Biden was a member of the board since the company was formed in late 2013. Four years later, after his father left public office, Biden bought 10% of the firm, investing $420,000, according to the New York Times.

But Mesires has insisted Biden has never been paid for his role on the board and did not profit financially from his stake in the company.

“He has not been compensated for being on the board of directors, nor has he received any return on his investment to date,” Mesires said in October.

Trump and Joe Biden, Hunter Biden’s father and who is the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, have clashed in the last couple weeks over who is tougher on China.

Trump has claimed that China paid the younger Biden $1.5 billion in an effort to influence his father and win favorable trade deals with the United States.

A pro-Trump super PAC released an ad last week saying “Beijing Biden” was in the pocket of China.

In response, the Biden campaign released its own ads blaming Trump for being too trusting of Chinese President Xi Jinping as the coronavirus spread.
