What the heck is a Brickie Award?

You’ve heard of the Emmys, the Grammys, the Tonys and maybe even the ESPYs — and if you haven’t, we suggest you get out more — but have you heard of D.C.’s Brickies?

For the last three years, Ward 6 Councilman Tommy Wells has awarded people and businesses that contribute to making Ward 6 a liveable community. The 4th Annual Livable, Walkable Awards (known as The Brickies) will be held Monday night at the Arena Stage from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

The event includes food, a cash bar and live entertainment.

Here’s the breakdown of this year’s winners:

  • Neighbor Award: Barbara Ehrlich. A 33-year resident of Southwest, Ehrlich has helped transform nearly a dozen abandoned historic call boxes into a vibrant network of markers for a walking trail that celebrates the culture, history and people of Southwest.
  • Organization Award: Anacostia Community Boathouse Association. The ACBA is helping restore access to the waterfront for residents and Wells says it is a key to revitalizing the Anacostia waterfront.
  •  Business Award: Argonaut Tavern. The Argonaut is a watering hole and restaurant that has become a symbol of the reviving corridor.
  • Public Service Award: Will Hill. Longtime ANC Commissioner Will Hill is the founder of the community’s Orange Hat patrols, which has helped bring residents out of their homes and ensured better public safety for the growing neighborhood.
