Queen Elizabeth II is doing well after her son Prince Charles tested positive for the coronavirus.
“Her Majesty The Queen remains in good health. The Queen last saw The Prince of Wales briefly on the morning of March 12 and is following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare,” a Buckingham Palace spokesman told Vanity Fair on Wednesday. Former royal physician Dr. Anna Hemming added that the two-week period since they last had contact was “a good buffer.”
Britain’s heir to the throne announced hours earlier that he had the coronavirus via a royal family statement that read, “He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual.”
“Charles has done the right thing by getting tested and now self-isolating,” Hemming said. “He has been sensible and responsible, and we wish him a speedy recovery. He is fit and healthy with no underlying conditions, so he should be fine.”
The physician added: “The fact that it has been two weeks since he last saw the queen and she is not showing any symptoms is also a positive sign. The royal doctors will be monitoring the royals closely and following the government guidelines very closely.”
Many in the royal family have moved to countryside residences during the coronavirus outbreak. So far, there have been more than 8,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the United Kingdom, while more than 400 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. Prime Minister Boris Johnson placed the entire nation under lockdown on Monday to mitigate the spread.
