Don Trump Jr. labels Democratic Party ‘the official party of illegal immigrants’

Don Trump Jr. did not take kindly to a proposal from House Democrats to give stimulus checks to illegal immigrants in the next aid package meant to ease the economic burden brought to many people amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump Jr. dubbed the Democratic Party “the official party for illegal immigrants” in an op-ed for the Hill, accusing the party’s members of putting the interests of illegal residents over U.S. citizens.

“It’s far easier to acknowledge that the Democratic Party unequivocally supports illegal immigration and open borders than it is to do the mental gymnastics necessary to construct the fantasy that the Democratic Party actually believes in a lawful, limited immigration system,” Trump Jr. wrote.

“For millions of Americans, the sheer hatred, vitriol and hysteria that Democratic politicians, liberal activists and left-leaning journalists directed at my father and his supporters over common-sense border security measures has made that perfectly clear over the past five years.”

Trump Jr. is the eldest child of President Trump, whose immigration policies often differ from his opponents across the aisle.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also expressed opposition to the House Democrats’ proposed $3 trillion spending package that extended eligibility for illegal residents who missed out on the first round. Leaders in the GOP-led Senate have said the package passed by the House as is would likely be dead on arrival.

Trump Jr. attacked other stances supported by some Democrats, such as granting amnesty to children who were brought into the country illegally, granting the right to vote for illegal residents, or offering healthcare to them. He also poked fun at the notion that disagreeing with these ideas makes one racist and xenophobic in addition to some far-left Democrats calling for the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

“Support for open borders is not a byproduct of Democratic principles or policies,” Trump Jr. said. “It is the principle; it is the policy. They’ve now made it official.”
