‘Crisis and failure at our southern border’: GOP demands DHS secretary resign

Led by Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, over 40 GOP representatives are demanding that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas tender his resignation for his handling of what Hern called the “crisis and failure at our southern border.”

“Our nation is facing increases in criminal gang activity, human trafficking, and drug smuggling at the hands of your decisions to circumvent the law and handcuff U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials,” the letter signed by 46 representatives said.

“Following one year of disastrous policies, nonexistent support for your agents’ ability to enforce immigration laws, and the total loss of faith from the American people, we call for your resignation as Secretary of Homeland Security,” the Republicans added.

Signatories include Reps. Brian Babin of Texas, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin, Tom Rice of South Carolina, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Clay Higgins of Louisiana, Yvette Herrell of New Mexico, Bob Good of Virginia, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Ronny L. Jackson of Texas, Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin, Louie Gohmert of Texas, Randy Weber of Texas, Mary Miller of Illinois, Andy Barr of Kentucky, Barry Loudermilk of Georgia, Doug LaMalfa of California, Chris Jacobs of New York, Dan Bishop of North Carolina, Jerry L. Carl of Alabama, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Ben Cline of Virginia, Matthew Rosendale Sr. of Montana, Barry Moore of Alabama, Victoria Spartz of Indiana, Diana Harshbarger of Tennessee, Cliff Bentz of Oregon, Jack Bergman of Michigan, Debbie Lesko of Arizona, Roger Williams of Texas, Bob Gibbs of Ohio, Byron Donalds of Florida, Lisa McClain of Michigan, Bill Posey of Florida, Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, Greg Murphy of North Carolina, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, Chip Roy of Texas, John Rose of Tennessee, August Pfluger of Texas, Doug Lamborn of Colorado, Beth Van Duyne of Texas, Carlos Gimenez of Florida, and Russ Fulcher of Idaho.

BIDEN’S ‘LEAVE AMERICANS BEHIND’ DOCTRINE

The letter referenced the alleged “secret flights transporting illegal immigrants around the country” as well as a tense leaked audio exchange between Mayorkas and Border Patrol agents in Yuma, Arizona, in which they complained to the secretary that their job has become significantly harder. One agent told Mayorkas, “You said you’re going to change it. The only thing that’s changed is it’s gotten worse.”

“You have admitted to making Border Patrol agents’ jobs more difficult, yet do nothing to ameliorate that problem. Instead, you make it exponentially harder for agents to do their job by implementing Biden administration directives that go against their Congressionally-mandated responsibilities,” the letter continued.

The DHS denied an October report that it was organizing flights for illegal immigrants to various locations across the United States. The report detailed multiple sightings of flights filled with migrants of all ages to locations along the East Coast. Mary Houtmann, a spokeswoman for ICE, said that “these are not our flights” and suggested they were organized by another agency.
