A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigation did not find any malicious intent after a police officer found something floating in his Starbucks coffee.
Last month, an off-duty officer claimed he had discovered a tampon or feminine hygiene product in his Frappuccino, but it turns out that it was part of a cleaning cloth, according to Fox 11.
BREAKING: Sources tell me an off duty LAPD officer allegedly found a tampon halfway thru his Frappuccino at a Starbucks in Diamond Bar on Friday. I’m told he used his police credit union debit card. Video of the barista making the drink showed investigators that the cloth towel fell into the ice, and the barista accidentally blended a part of it when she made his beverage. The police determined that neither criminal tampering on the part of the barista nor a malicious hoax perpetuated by the officer were factors.
“All available video was reviewed by Walnut/Diamond Bar Station Detectives, along with interviews of witnesses in this case,” said the police report released by Sheriff Alex Villanueva. “Based on the evidence available at this time, the item in the drink was possibly a cleaning-type cloth commonly used by store employees. The investigation was unable to prove malicious intent on the part of the store employee. Pending the review and final decision of the district attorney’s office, there is no further information at this time.”
The incident echoes a similar case last month, in which the New York City Police Department found “no criminality” when three officers got sick after consuming milkshakes from Shake Shack.
