First lady Melania Trump spoke with Carrie Symonds, the fiance of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, to wish him well in his recovery from the coronavirus.

“Talked today w/ @carriesymonds. Our prayers are w/ her & UK PM @BorisJohnson for a speedy & full recovery,” Trump said. “The United States & the United Kingdom will get through this difficult period & emerge stronger than before. We stand w/ the UK in the fight against #COVID19.”

The White House also released a readout of the first lady’s call with Symonds, who is pregnant.

“Today, First Lady Melania Trump spoke with Ms. Carrie Symonds of the United Kingdom,” the statement read. “Mrs. Trump expressed well wishes for Ms. Symonds and Prime Minister Johnson, and noted that the United States was praying for their speedy and full recoveries. Mrs. Trump reaffirmed that the United States stands together with the United Kingdom in the fight to defeat the coronavirus pandemic. Mrs. Trump and Ms. Symonds expressed optimism that the United States and the United Kingdom would get through this difficult period and emerge stronger than before.”

Johnson, 55, was hospitalized on April 5, more than a week after he tested positive for the coronavirus. He was then transferred to the intensive care unit a day later when his condition worsened and received oxygen treatment while there.

He was released from the hospital on Easter Sunday and is recovering at the Chequers estate, the prime minister’s country house outside of Ellesborough.

“On the advice of his medical team, the P.M. will not be immediately returning to work,” the government said in a statement. “He wishes to thank everybody at St Thomas’ for the brilliant care he has received.”
