Prank halts bus traffic to North Harford High

An apparent prank at North Harford High School snarled bus traffic and caused more than $2,000 in damage late Thursday night or early Friday morning, police said.

A newspaper carrier called police around 3:45 a.m. to report that someone had draped electrical wire across the light poles surrounding the bus loop at Norht Harford High School and spread nails in the roadway – preventing buses from entering, said Harford County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Christina Presberry.

The front door of the high school had also been glued shut, and one exterior wall had “07” written in caulk, Presberry said.

“It sounds like a senior prank, but the seniors around here have been gone for about two weeks,” she said.

While school officials cleaned up the mess, students were dropped off at nearby North Harford Middle School – which had also been partially blocked by wire – and used a tunnel to cross under Route 165 to the high school campus. Buses were able to return to routine by the afternoon dismissal, but the shared campus was “a traffic nightmare” in themorning, according to the school resource officer investigating the case.
