Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was showered with boos from the crowd this week after she was announced at a Chicago Cubs baseball game.
“There are audible boos when Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot is introduced before the Cubs game,” Chicago Tribune Cubs beat reporter Meghan Montemurro tweeted Thursday at Wrigley Field after Lightfoot’s name was announced over the public address system.

“Mayor Lori Lightfoot gets a big round of boos from fans here at Wrigley Field,” Chicago Sun-Times Cubs beat reporter Russell Dorsey added.

Lightfoot was at the ballpark to hand baseballs to Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady and Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike, who then tossed the ceremonial first pitches.
The Chicago Democrat has been widely criticized over her strict coronavirus lockdown orders, and at one point, she instructed residents to report business owners who were not abiding by her directives.
In April of last year, Lightfoot was spotted getting her hair done at a salon in direct defiance of her state’s own coronavirus restrictions. The mayor justified the decision by explaining that she was the face of the city.
“I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media, and I’m out in the public eye,” Lightfoot said in response to accusations of hypocrisy. “I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut.”

Lightfoot tweeted photos from the ballpark and said she was “thrilled” fans were back in the stands but urged Chicagoans to continue wearing masks and social distancing.
