Anti-Semitic graffiti defaced a portion of the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem’s Muslim quarter on Saturday, according to local reports.
“Slaughter the Jews” was spray-painted in Arabic on a portion of the Kotel HaKatan, or “Little Wailing Wall,” which is sacred to Jewish people as the second-closest place to where God’s presence manifested in the Temple.
According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, “at least one Arab girl was arrested” for the offense, which has since been overlaid with more red paint to hide its message.
The Western Wall served as a retaining wall for Herod’s Temple, and is the last physical remnant of the structure that was destroyed by the Romans when they sacked Jerusalem in the first century.
