‘This whole thing is a disgrace’: Trump comments on whistleblower from Oval Office

President Trump railed against House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff and the impeachment inquiry against Trump.

During brief comments to reporters Monday, Trump was asked if he knew the identity of the whistleblower at the center of allegations that he wrongly pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate ties Joe Biden’s son had to a Ukrainian energy company.

“We’re trying to find out about the whistleblower. We have a whistleblower that reports things that are incorrect,” Trump said.

The president repeated the refrain that the July 25 phone call between he and Zelensky, which is a huge part of the intelligence community complaint, was “perfect.”

“The call was perfect,” Trump said. “When the whistleblower reported it, he made it sound terrible, and then you have Adam Schiff who even worse made up my words, which I think is horrible.”

He also went after Schiff for his description of the phone call during acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire’s testimony, which was not the same as on the transcript.

“Adam Schiff made up the phony call, and he read it to Congress, and he read it to the people of the United States. And it’s a disgrace,” Trump said. “This whole thing is a disgrace. There’s been tremendous corruption and we’re seeking it, it’s called drain the swamp.”

“There was a lot of corruption having to do with the 2016 election against us. And we want to get to the bottom of it, and it’s very important that we do,” he added.
