A record number of Americans believe that President Trump is off to a poor start during his first 100 days, according to a poll released Sunday from NBC News and the Wall Street Journal.
The poll found that 45 percent believe Trump is off to a poor start and his approval rating stands at 40 percent, which is far below other presidents at this time in their presidencies. That approval rating is the worst of any president near the 100-day mark in the history of the poll.
Trump will have been in office for 100 days on April 29.
For instance, President Obama’s overall approval rating was 61 percent at this same point during his presidency. Former President George W. Bush had 56 percent and former President Bill Clinton got 52 percent.
As 45 percent said Trump is off to a bad start, 19 percent said his start has been fair and 35 percent said he was off to a good or great start.
Trump also got low marks for his handling on foreign policy (40 percent approval) and on the economy (44 percent).
However, 62 percent of Americans support the recent military action in Syria, according to the poll.
The poll was conducted April 17-20 of 900 adults and had a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points.
