Cop in Southeast shoots teen who was trying to rob him

An off-duty Metropolitan Police officer shot a teenager who was trying to rob him Tuesday night on the 4600 block of Hanna Place Southeast, authorities said.

Police said the officer was walking to visit relatives at about 9 p.m. when the 17-year-old used a knife to try to rob him. The officer fired his gun, striking the teenager in the leg. He was taken to an hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not name the teenor the officer. The officer was a 20-year veteran.

Woodbridge man robbed after accepting ride from stranger

A Woodbridge man who accepted a ride from a stranger was robbed Monday night, Prince William County police reported. The driver of a maroon sedan took the 47-year-old Woodbridge man to an unknown location, threatened him with a gun, stole his money and ordered him to take off his clothes, according to a police report. Police are looking for a man between the ages of 25 and 30 who is about 5 feet 11 and has a thin build, the report said.

Man robs a bank in Bethesda for third time in March

For the third time in as many weeks, a middle-aged, white man has robbed a bank in Bethesda and gotten away with an undisclosed amount of cash, Montgomery County police said. Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, the suspect robbed the Provident Bank at 5416 Wisconsin Ave. with a handgun. He had struck the United Bank at 7535 Old Georgetown Road on March 6 and again on March 12. Pr. George’s police officer saves two teens from fire

Prince George’s County Police Officer Jonathan Foote saved two teenage boys from a fire on the 13900 block of Woodmore Road in Bowie around 12:40 p.m. Saturday, county police said. Foote was working a traffic assignment nearby when he was told of the fire. When he arrived he found the garage engulfed in flames. – Freeman
