Free World? Neil Young Objects to GOP Candidate Playing His Song

On Tuesday, a big announcement was made by a publicity-seeking has-been with bad hair. Oh, and Donald Trump also declared that he was running for president.

Canadian rocker Neil Young is first out of the gate – trumping even Tom Petty – loudly announcing his objection to a presidential candidate he disagrees with using his music at a campaign event. Apparently Trump played Young’s 1989 anthem, ‘Rockin’ in the Free World,’ at his announcement, and the rocker wants the world to know that he is not happy.

“Donald Trump is the latest politician to get told off for using a popular song in a campaign without the artist’s permission, with Neil Young now telling the business magnet [sic] that he’s not free to use his song ‘Rockin’ in the Free World,’” reports Billboard.

The Billboard article also bizarrely calls Young, a prominent Reagan supporter back in the 1980s, “famously liberal.”

Young does appear to have moved left over the years, however; he noted on Tuesday that he’s backing Bernie Sanders’s bid for the White House. So Hillary Clinton had better think twice before playing ‘Heart of Gold’ at any future rallies.
