West Hollywood City Council unanimously calls for removal of Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Los Angeles City Council and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce should permanently strip President Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the West Hollywood City Council voted unanimously Monday night.

“At this evening’s regular City Council meeting, the West Hollywood City Council voted unanimously to approve the Resolution,” a council member told the Hollywood Reporter regarding the push to implore the bodies to remove Trump’s mark from the popular tourist destination.

Publicly available minutes from the meeting were not available online as of Tuesday morning, but the agenda stated that the resolution was considered due to Trump’s “disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country.” Examples include the Trump administration’s positions on immigration, climate change, and Russia’s attempts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, according to a council report.

The move, however, may not yield any results. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce previously refused to take away Bill Cosby’s star over public backlash leveled at him after he was accused of multiple instances of sexual misconduct, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark,” Leron Gubler, the chamber’s president and CEO, told the magazine. “Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk.”

The Hollywood Walk of Fame has become a flash point for anti-Trump demonstrations, some of which turned violent in July.

Trump’s star, dedicated in 2007 for his role on NBC’s “The Apprentice,” has also been damaged by protesters, including last month by a man wielding a pickax.
