The federal judge overseeing the case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his business partner Rick Gates issued a gag order on Wednesday, to prevent lawyers from talking in a way that could have a “materially prejudicial effect on this case.”
Parties, witnesses, and lawyers may not talk to the media or public in ways that “pose a substantial likelihood of material prejudice to this case,” U.S District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson said in two-page ruling.
Before issuing the gag order, Jackson asked Manafort, Gates, and government prosecutors to weigh in. But no one raised any objections.
Manafort and Gates were charged in a 12-count indictment last week stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
