After sending mixed signals on whether he’d support the proposed earmark moratorium in the Senate, Senator John Thune finally came out strongly in favor of it:
Brian Baker, president of Taxpayers Against Earmarks, strongly praised Thune’s position:
Taxpayers Against Earmarks congratulates and thanks Sen. Thune for his tremendous leadership in the fight against wasteful government spending. Sen. Thune yesterday helped to pass the two-year earmarks moratorium in the Senate Republican Conference. That brave action, coupled with the passage of Sen. Thune’s own resolution ‘to cut federal non-security discretionary spending to fiscal year 2008 levels,’ will help to save hard-earned taxpayer money. Simply put, Sen. Thune is a hero to taxpayers.
