Four police officers were shot in four separate incidents on Sunday, leading to the death of one officer in Texas.
According to CBS News, at least two of the officers were purposely targeted by shooters either while they were on a call or while they were driving their police vehicles. The other two shootings happened during traffic stops that turned violent.
Two of the suspects in the shootings are dead following subsequent shootouts with police. The other two remain at large.
San Antonio police Detective Benjamin Marconi, 50, was shot and killed Sunday morning while writing out a traffic ticket. Marconi was sitting in his police vehicle writing up a traffic ticket when another vehicle pulled up from behind and fired the fatal shot.
Police told CBS they don’t think the shooter had any relation to the original driver who was pulled over. The shooter remains at large and police continue to search for him.
In St. Louis, a police officer was shot twice in the face during an ambush-style attack, but is expected to survive, according to CBS.
Police told reporters the officer, 46, was sitting in traffic when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and the driver fired at least two shots. The officer was hit in the face but his injuries are not life-threatening.
The suspect was later stopped by other officers in a traffic stop and then fled on foot. During that foot chase, he fired upon the officers chasing him. The suspect was killed when officers returned fire, according to the report.
In Gladstone, Mo., an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and an individual ran from the vehicle. The officer chased after the individual and tried to get him into custody, which ended in a struggle where police say the suspect revealed a gun.
Shots were fired and the suspect was shot and killed while one officer was also shot. The injuries to the police officer were not believed to be life-threatening.
And an officer in Sanibel, Fla., was also shot during a traffic stop Sunday night, but more details about that event were not immediately available. The officer was treated for his injuries and released.
