Senior communications adviser to Biden announces resignation

A senior official within President Joe Biden‘s administration announced she would be resigning from her role in the coming weeks.

Mariel Saez, the White House director of broadcast media, announced in a statement on Monday she is leaving her position for a job in the private sector, CNN reported. In her statement provided to the outlet, Saez said it had been an “honor” to serve in her position.


“I am grateful to my talented and dedicated colleagues at the White House and across the Administration who worked hand-in-hand with me to communicate the President’s priorities across broadcast media,” Saez said in her statement.

Before serving as communications director for Biden, Saez worked for Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer for around a decade. Additionally, Saez worked on Biden’s presidential campaign and his Presidential Inaugural Committee, according to the outlet.

Saez’s announcement comes as several White House officials informed the outlet they were preparing for the likelihood of more departures from the administration following Biden’s State of the Union address on March. 1.

Biden has continued to experience sinking approval ratings, with FiveThirtyEight showing a 41.9% approval rating and a 53.1% disapproval rating as of Monday. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Biden has an average approval rating of 41.7%, along with a disapproval rating of 52.7%.
