A Senate panel is expected to meet Jan. 18 to consider President-elect Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, despite Democratic demands for an ethics probe on the nominee first.
The Senate Health Education, Labor and Pensions Committee meet Jan. 18 with Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., on his nomination to lead the agency.
Price’s nomination has garnered significant criticism from Democrats, who have asked for an ethics probe into his healthcare stock trading. Leading Democrats say an investigation needs to occur before any hearings can begin.
HELP Chairman Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., praised Price in a statement.
“He can see the view from the doctor’s office as well as from the lawmaker’s office,” Alexander said, referring to Price’s occupation as an orthopedic surgeon.
