It’s hard to ignore the white elephant in the room for too long. And with the Newseum’s entrance into the “Twitter Age,” comes good tiding from Hewlett-Packard — to the tune of $5 million.
The museum plans to build a new wing — its first addition since it moved downtown in 2008 — featuring the latest in news technology including newsfeeds on touch-screen and touch-activated walls.
And yes, Twitter.
While Twitter is still eyed by some reporters as pseudo-journalism (most notably as of late, the Post’s Mike Weiss who was suspended for a Twitter experiment gone bad), it’s nevertheless here to stay at least in the short term as reporters tweet updates from the ground and post stories.
And $5 million may sound like a lot, but HP is reaping its rewards — the computer giant will become a founding partner of the Newseum and its computers and other equipment will be featured extensively in the new wing.
