Fiorina echoes Trump, says Clinton is playing gender card

Fresh off being announced as Ted Cruz’s running mate, Carly Fiorina got right to attacking their potential general election nemesis, Hillary Clinton, while echoing a refrain recently adopted by Donald Trump.

“I think that Hillary Clinton sometimes says to people vote for me because I’m a woman,” Fiorina said in an interview with MSNBC Wednesday afternoon. “I would never say to somebody vote for me because I’m a woman. I would say vote for me vote for Ted because you think we’re qualified and principled.”

“I’m offended, frankly, when Democrats talk about women’s’ issues because we’re the majority of the nation, and every issue that faces this nation is a woman’s issue,” she added.

In his victory speech Tuesday, after winning all five state primaries that evening, Trump attacked Clinton, saying “the only card she has is the women’s card.”

“Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she would get 5 percent of the vote. And the beautiful thing is, women don’t like her,” the businessman said.

Fiorina’s remarks came in response to a question asking whether Trump was right in saying Clinton is playing the “gender card” to earn votes.

“Donald Trump clearly has a problem with women,” Fiorina replied. “Clearly. I mean the week we had a terrorist attack in Brussels — he attacked Heidi Cruz,” she added, referring to the Texas senator’s wife.

Trump’s disparaging comments about women, ranging from Rosie O’Donnell to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, has earned him a significant amount of backlash, and many Republicans fear that if he does clinch the party’s nomination he would lose the female vote by a lot against a general election opponent like Clinton.
