D.C. Public Schools is asking for volunteers this weekend for its seventh annual Beautification Day in preparation for the first day of school on Monday. The effort is a citywide “spruce up” of all city public school buildings and requires volunteers at more than 100 schools. The event will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. Volunteers work includes “sweeping/washing the sidewalk, painting exterior doors, picking-up trash, planting flowers, trimming bushes, pulling weeds, laying mulch, etc.,” according to DCPS. Volunteers must sign up online. Go to http://dcps.dc.gov/portal/site/DCPS/. DCPS says it will provide snacks and water for all volunteers. — Liz Farmer
