Taxpayers should not be billed for abortions Re: “Planned Parenthood provides valuable services,” from readers, Feb. 23
Advocates of Planned Parenthood point to its medical services — such as cancer screenings — and characterize critics as unthinking and uncaring for wanting to defund the organization. Curiously, they never mention that the main medical service PP offers is abortion.
Abortion, which kills an innocent baby and induces psychological trauma in the baby’s mother, is not health care. Taxpayers should not be forced to fund it.

Republicans were obstructionists three months ago
The current Republican majority in the House of Representatives says that they have the right to do what they said they would do because they won the November elections. They are also complaining about Democratic efforts to block legislation that would kill collective bargaining in Wisconsin.
These are the same Republicans who, just three short months ago when they were still in the minority, killed all Democratic proposals that came up in the very same House. Remember seeing them say “No, no, no, no” on TV?

Unions serve union bosses, not workers
How does absence from the political process accomplish Wisconsin state legislators’ duty to serve their constituents? Running and hiding from their vital responsibilities is childish. Based on the evidence, the only ones being served are the union bosses, certainly not the taxpayers.
When I was a young man, my uncle (who lived in Dearborn, Mich.) bragged about how he “busted skulls” to get the union into Ford Motor Company. A few years later, I asked him what he currently thought of the unions. His reply: “Oh, they’ve gone too far. All we wanted was decent working conditions and a fair wage.”
Those who “busted skulls” didn’t realize at the time that the unions were not designed to do what workers wanted, but to cater to the greed of union leaders.
Now it’s come full circle, and it’s the union bosses who are frightened and frantic and the politicians they support with union members’ dues are running away to hide. Hopefully, they all took along their teddy bears.
