The fourth annual Viva Italia Concours D’Elegance will welcome nearly 100 Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Fiats, Alfa Romeos, Ducatis and other marquee Italian cars and motorcycles to Harbor East today.
The event raises money for the Children’s Guild, a nonprofit organization that annually serves more than 600 children with emotional and behavioral challenges by providing unique educational programs.
“The cars are beautiful, I like seeing them, but my passion is really the kids that we serve,” said Lori Trumble, event co-chairwoman. “I’m really looking forward to meeting people who don’t know about the Children’s Guild and sharing it with them.”
More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the event, which also features live entertainment, food, shopping and children’s activities. All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Guild.
“The children that we serve are the types of kids that the public schools find difficult to educate. Our main mission is to teach those children the values and skills needed to be successful in life,” said Andrew Ross, president of the guild. “The money that’s being raised is going to assist us in providing them with the enrichment they need to grow and develop.”
The event was founded by car enthusiast Jonathan Kendall in 2005, who wanted to find a way to give back to the Children’s Guild after they educated his son.
Ross said he’ll be at the event all day. “I wouldn’t call myself a car buff by any means, but when you see all these cars … there’s a spirit in those cars that’s designed into each one, so when you go down there, it’s a delightful experience,” he said.
