Two U.S. Marine jets collided off the coast of San Diego shortly before noon Wednesday.
The two Third Marine Aircraft Wing single-seat F/A-18 Hornets struck each other in mid-air after departing the Air Station Miramar base on a training mission, according to a report from ABC News.
One of the pilots safely ejected from the aircraft, and first responders were deployed to rescue the pilot in the ocean. The other pilot was able to safely land at Naval Air Station North Island, Calif.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
