If Google is a measure of the Washington region’s thinking, then Metro is more important than driving and even more important than anything else.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority was the number one term entered into Google locally, as reported by Huffington Post DC.
Spots two and three were snagged by the Md. Motor Vehicle Administration and D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles.
Does this mean that locals prefer Metro to driving? Well, not necessarily. If the region had just one department of motor vehicles, rather than three, the residents’ searching wouldn’t have been split.
And it seems the most popular time for searching for Metro was the week of the Jan. 26 snowstorm when snow-clogged roads trapped some drivers for more than 12 hours and roadways were left littered with abandoned cars. Metro even came to the rescue of some stranded Fairfax County bus riders. Perhaps subpar road conditions inspire the hidden subway rider in the most road-hardened commuters?
